Georgia Birthday Gathering Shooting Wounds Eleven Teenagers
The gunfire erupted around midnight during what authorities described as a “large gathering” at Carolyn Crayton Park in Macon, located roughly 85 miles (137 kilometers) southeast of Atlanta, according to reports citing the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
The victims included four 18-year-old men, two 18-year-old women and five 17-year-old boys.
Authorities said an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were in critical condition, while the remaining nine injured teenagers were reported to be stable.
Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said the event appeared to have started as a birthday celebration that was initially scheduled to take place elsewhere before those attending relocated to the park.
According to Davis, another group subsequently arrived at the location, and a dispute between the two groups escalated before shots were fired.
All 11 people who were wounded were attending the birthday gathering, authorities said.
No suspects had been taken into custody as of Sunday, while investigators continued working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The FBI was also supporting the investigation because of the large number of people involved. However, Davis said the evidence collected so far pointed to the incident being local in nature.
